The Boothbay peninsula comprises the towns of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb, and Southport Island. The peninsula offers a full range of properties, from tradtional Maine cottages to grand houses with bold ocean views and rural farms. Boothbay Harbor, the peninsula's commercial center, offers all of the amenities from a fully stocked grocery store, a library, and a hospital, to a very well equipped YMCA with pool, indoor tennis courts, and workout rooms. The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor offers stellar year-round entertainment including everything from plays to rock stars. The downtown bustles with numerous clothing stores, art galleries, gift shops, and restaurants.
For the garden/nature enthusiast, the peninsula is home to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, a unique seaside botanical campus that is rapidly becoming a must-see location in Maine. For the avid walker, the Boothbay Region Land Trust maintains seven properties, including Damariscove Island, one of the first islands visited by Europeans in the 17th century. The village of East Boothbay is not only charming unto itself, but is also home to several shipyards, including the world-famous Hodgdon Yachts. On McKown Point, the Department of Marine Resources operates a tiny, jewel-like aquarium, while next door Bigelow Laboratories also conducts marine research.
